Frequently asked questions

Perenmail is a developer email-testing tool: private, registered-only inboxes on real domains for manually inspecting the mail your own products send. Here is how it works, and how plans and privacy are handled.

Getting started

What is Perenmail?

Perenmail is a developer email-testing tool. It gives you private, registered-only inboxes on real domains so you can point your own product’s signup, OTP, password-reset, transactional and cron email at an address you control, then inspect exactly what arrives. It is built for manual QA of the mail your app sends — not for browsing a public inbox.

Who is Perenmail for?

It is for developers and QA engineers who need to verify the email their own applications send: that the OTP is correct, the reset link resolves, the templated HTML renders, and the delayed or scheduled messages actually go out. If you are testing your product’s OTP and 2FA flows, this is built for you.

How do I create an inbox?

Sign up for a free account and name a private inbox on a real domain in one click. It is yours immediately — point a test at the address and mail starts arriving. The free Personal plan includes one project and up to five persistent inboxes; see pricing for the full breakdown.

Is this a temporary or disposable mail service?

No. Perenmail inboxes are persistent by default and registered-only. It is a developer testing tool for inspecting the email your own products send, not a throwaway address for signing up to third-party sites. There is no public inbox browsing and no anonymous access.

Testing workflow

How does persistence work, and why does it matter for testing?

Inboxes never expire on their own. They stay until you deliberately archive or delete them. This matters because a lot of email under test arrives late — trial reminders, daily digests, background-job and cron notifications fire hours or days after you triggered them. On an inbox that expires, that mail is gone; on Perenmail it is waiting for you.

How fast does new mail show up?

Live. A listening indicator and poll heartbeat surface new messages at the top of the inbox the moment they land — no reload — and unread state updates in place while you watch. You can fire a test in one window and see it arrive in the next.

Can I grab OTP codes and links quickly?

Yes. Perenmail extracts verification codes and every link in a message for you. Copy the code or open the link in a single click, without hunting through the body — which keeps manual OTP and 2FA testing fast.

Is it safe to open HTML email in Perenmail?

Yes. HTML bodies render inside a locked, script-free sandboxed iframe, which neutralizes stored cross-site-scripting from hostile inbound mail. You can toggle between Rendered, Text, and Source views of any message to see exactly what your template produced.

Can I see the raw source and authentication headers?

Yes. Personal+ gives you the full RFC822 view of a message along with synthesized SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication results, so you can debug your own outbound email down to the header level. If those results are confusing, our SPF, DKIM & DMARC guide explains what each one checks.

How do I keep many inboxes organized?

Group inboxes by project, label them with markers and tags, and search across everything. That keeps a large set of test addresses — one per environment, feature, or client — navigable instead of a flat pile.

Can I download attachments?

Attachments are available on the Personal+ plan, alongside raw source and full headers. This lets you confirm your app is sending the right files with the right names and content types. Compare plans on the pricing page.

Plans, billing & privacy

What is included in the free plan?

The Personal plan is free: one project and up to five persistent inboxes, live delivery, and one-click code and link capture. No credit card required. See pricing for how it compares to Personal+.

What does Personal+ cost and what does it add?

Personal+ is $9/mo (USD). It raises your limits — more projects and more inboxes — and unlocks raw source, headers and attachments for deeper debugging of your outbound email. Full details are on the pricing page.

How is billing handled, and can I cancel anytime?

Personal+ is billed monthly through Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record — it sells and invoices the subscription and handles payment and tax. You can manage or cancel from the customer portal whenever you like; there is no lock-in.

Are my inboxes private, or can someone guess the address?

Your inboxes are private and registered-only. There is no public inbox browsing, so mail is not exposed to anonymous visitors, and only your signed-in account can read the addresses you create. This is a deliberate difference from public inboxes anyone can open.

How long is my mail kept, and can I delete it?

Messages and inboxes are kept until you archive or delete them — you control the lifecycle. When you delete a message, inbox, or your whole account, we remove it from the active service; residual copies in backups or logs are purged on their normal rotation, within 30 days.

Can I use Perenmail to sign up to other sites anonymously?

No. Perenmail is a developer testing tool for inspecting the email your own products send. It is not for anonymous signups, hiding identity, or dodging spam — inboxes are registered-only and tied to your account. The supported workflow is pointing your own app’s signup, OTP, password-reset or transactional mail at a private address and checking what actually arrives.
